Bay windows are exquisitely designed and are a feast for the eyes. They are marvelous extensions to a room. Most of them are huge and showcase
beautiful scenery outside. Because of this, bay windows are often clear. Tinted varieties are also used when minimal sunlight is desired.
As these windows almost cover an entire wall from the ceiling to the floor, they provide the illusion that the room is somewhat larger than it seems. They easily become an extension to the yard or a view of the street.
Bay Window Treatment
The initial consideration is choosing which treatment will be used. Will they need drapery or shades? A busy-looking window decorated with plants or pillows will need to use shades to lessen the complications that can be stressful to the eyes when viewed on a daily basis. When there are too many items on the bottom of the pane, the window looks overly-dressed and messy. However, simpler ones need to be accentuated by more elaborate drapery. Most curtains that are used in bay windows have two layers: one for privacy protection and another for insulation. The sheer panels are mostly made of fine, light-colored fabric that are used to conceal the activities going on inside while the outside is still slightly visible. They also give the option of weakening the glare of natural light coming from outside. The second, thicker layer offers more significant shielding from UV rays when the sun is too strong. When closed, they preserve the cooler temperature inside and prevent it from increasing.
As they are designed to give more space, these kinds of windows are mostly polygonal. Because of this unique feature, a different kind of curtain rod is needed to make sure the drapes are well-placed. Rods that curve along the edges of the multi-sided panels are designed just for basic shapes of panoramic apertures. After installing them using heavy duty adhesives or attaching them directly to the wall by screwing them in, it would be easy to slide in curtain panels.
However, standard sizes of bay windows seem to be non-existent. This is because not all houses are made the same. They vary in measurement especially when house owners have a say on how their windows should appear. This is why most of the time, a simple measurement will have to be done to order custom-sized rods that will fit them well. When blackout curtains are to be used, the rods should be a little bit longer to accommodate extra length on the two ends. This will make it possible for a totally dark atmosphere to be created.
Another great idea for large windows is to undress them! Sometimes, there is absolutely no need for any curtains whatsoever. In this case, panel paint needs to be double-checked for any chips or color inconsistency. A neat appearance can be the perfect option especially if the interior already offers a feast of elaborate items like furniture or an elegant Victorian-age table setting.
Blinds are another option. They can easily be opened and closed according to lighting and privacy needs, and give a more structured look. Therefore, they are suited to classrooms on a high tower that overlook a busy corner, or an executive lounge with a seaside view at the local airport.
A combination of blinds and curtains, shades and curtains or multi-layered drapes are also feasible solutions to your window coverings needs.
