Most people are more used to using curtains as window treatments for their homes. This is perfectly understandable since curtains have been used, in many variations, perhaps since
the time man learned to make houses out of mud and carve out a space for air ventilation (this space having evolved into the present-day window). But an easier way to cover up windows, accessorize them and provide additional decoration to the room is to use blinds.
Since indoor blinds are most often associated with offices, conference rooms and commercial buildings, some homeowners find them too cold to be mounted at home, or remind them too much of a workplace. This makes them undesirable because what people want to do at home is to sit back and relax. This mentality can actually be easily mended, but those who think this way ought to use it to their advantage. Use this window treatment in a private home office where it can give an executive look and that workplace aura that will enable you to actually do some work.
There are two designs to choose from, one with horizontal panes and another with vertical panes. Each design looks best in different areas of the house, accessorizing different kinds of windows.
Horizontal blinds may be rolled up when not needed for the usual blocking of bright sunlight and if you want to see a bit of the greens outside the house. These look best when mounted over windows that are medium length. These windows may be plain glass or the typical design with shutters, like those often found in kitchens. These windows often have kitchen counters, cabinets and the sink directly beneath them. Along with a bit of ruffled curtain along the top, which measures about ¼ the length of the window, horizontal panes will make the kitchen look cozier especially in the afternoon when bright orange sunlight illuminate the windows, with a bit coming in through the gaps.
This can also add a mellowing touch to bars and metal grills. It looks tacky to use this design for floor-length windows though. There are vertical panes for that. In this case the panes are usually wider in length as compared to the horizontal ones. Rooms with glass walls facing the outdoors will be accorded privacy when needed. Besides covering the interior of the room, the decorative effect is modern and classy. They also add virtual height to the room because of the vertical lines. They are also complimenting accessories for rooms with tall windows, and even on grill doors that lead out to a patio or the yard.
They also look great when combined with other window treatments. They are often partnered with curtains, as was the example mentioned earlier. They are very easy to handle and adjust according to how much air and sunlight you want to permit in. They give the necessary cover for windows without crowding the room or giving its occupants a claustrophobic feel. What’s more, they are very easy to clean and also very affordable. Blinds can easily be ordered from an online home décor shop if you don’t have the time to visit the nearest Home Depot.
