If you are changing or about to change or redo the interior of your home, you probably want to have something that you have not had before in the room. You begin with the most
common things, that is changing the wall paper, the wall paint, the carpet, and maybe even the furniture and curtains. However this time around, instead of hanging new curtains, try hanging roller blinds.
Roller blinds are considered a window treatment as well as a decorative addition, and can be made up of stiffened fabric (also called Roman shades), wood or a metal. They are hung at the windows, as a substitute to a traditional window curtain, and can either be vertical or horizontal.
Horizontal Roller Blinds
A horizontal roller blind is one which rolls or lifts upwards. These usually use a tube, which is installed at the top of the blinds, on which the fabric rolls up on when opening the blinds. If the blinds are made of wood or a metal; like aluminum, plastic or vinyl, instead of rolling onto a tube, the blind simply folds to the top when opened.
Vertical Roller Blinds
A vertical roller blind is one in which the blinds roll or move sideways. In the case of a wooden or metal horizontal blind, the vertical blind folds in on itself when opened. The only difference is that instead of opening upwards, the vertical blinds open sideways. Whether they open to the left or to the right depends on how you configure the blinds to be.
As vertical blinds open sideways, they can also be hung on doors as well. Hanging a blind on the door can add a positive and beautifying effect to your room. Also, vertical blinds provide better light control, as compared to horizontal blinds. Which is why, if you want your room to have privacy at night, as well as warm light in the day, vertical blinds are the answer for you.
Types Of Blinds
Blinds are available in various designs and types. Here is a list of all the types of blinds available in the market:
Sliding Shutters – usually made of wood, these are the most unorthodox blinds available in the market. These blinds neither roll nor fold, instead the slide on their panels. They can easily be installed on doors as well.
Venetian Blinds – they are horizontal vanes, or slates, that are positioned one on top of the other. These are usually made of hard materials, such as wood, metal or plastic. They are connected to one another by strips of cloth or chords, and fold into each other when opened.
Honeycomb or Pleated Blinds – the vanes or slates of these blinds are cellular, or in the shape of a honeycomb, and they fold in on one another just like Venetian blinds. Because of their cellular structure, they are very energy efficient.
Roller blinds, not only are cost effective, but are also a great way to beautify your home.
