A bathroom can be relatively easy to decorate…mostly because of its size. It is smaller than the other rooms and receiving areas of the house so you don’t have to
worry about any excess space that has to be decorated in order to avoid creating boring corners. What’s more, the bathroom has very specific purposes and that alone cuts down the list of the usual choices for room decorations and home decor.
The easiest way to add glamour to your bathroom and make it more interesting is to put up shower curtains. Of course if the bathroom has a window you can always add the usual window treatments. Keep in mind, though, that having long, heavy curtains in the room is strongly discouraged. Not only do they make an already small space look even more cramped, they are also a very impractical presence in the room. Blinds may serve a better purpose. But for enclosed bathrooms that only have small ventilation windows, which make adding extravagant window treatments look silly, we have the shower curtains to turn our attention to.
Look first at the tiles and wall paint in the bathroom and look for a concept that you can build your decorations on. This is advisable since the tiles are not easily and quickly replaced. Then you can start selecting the curtains that best match your bathroom.
The safest technique is to simply follow the colors of the paint and tiles and choose matching curtains. An all-white bathroom usually has white drapes in the shower. But if you want to be more adventurous in designing and adding spice in your bathroom, choose a different color. Of course, it should also look good when paired with the dominant hue in the room. To make a more dramatic effect, place your tub, if it is permissible, in a center area and mount the curtains over it. Then use a bold color if the bathroom walls are light. If they are all white, try using red curtains. The effect will be truly dramatic and sophisticated. If the room is of a darker hue like dark blue or green, use lighter tones so as not to overdo the color synchronization. It will also make the bathroom look dark and depressing if you do otherwise.
Prints are also cool to experiment with, although be careful in choosing them because some might look tacky on curtains. For example, a wreath pattern is festive and is sometimes even cute; but multiple wreaths printed in a long, pleated sheet do not have the same effect. Patterns also have a better effect on shower stalls than on a long bathtub.
These curtains are unlike the ones found in the other areas of the house. They are mostly made from plastic for the sole purpose of being waterproof because they are placed over the openings of shower areas. It has a dual purpose: first, to keep the privacy of the shower area and prevent excess water from spreading throughout the bathroom floor and second, to contribute to the decorations of the bathroom. It is then best to choose the right ones that will match the rest of the bathroom fixtures.
