Vinyl Windows

Vinyl windows are one of the more popular style of windows available and are the innovative replacements for traditional wood or aluminum windows. These windows provide a beautiful and modern look compared to the older type of windows especially when adorned with a set of appropriate curtains. Until World War II, windows were made out of wood, aluminum, and steel. Germany is the first country that produced vinyl windows due to the shortage of natural resources. In the United States, B.F. Goodrich started making vinyl windows with smaller designs.

Vinyl windows have many attractive features for the homeowners. These windows come with tilting and sliding mechanism which makes it easy to maintain and clean than regular windows. Vinyl is flexible, strong, and durable, and they are available in different styles, sizes, and shapes. This type of window requires very low maintenance and they do not crack, swell, or warp.

This window is better insulated than other window types because these windows have argon gases filled in between the glasses. This offers both insulation benefits and better protection against UV rays. The window sashes are fusion welded and hence they will stay together for longer period than other window types.

There are different types of vinyl windows such as garden windows, single hung windows, double hung windows, casement windows, side slider windows, awning windows, picture windows, bay windows, and bow windows. Garden windows are normally installed above the sink, giving homeowner to have small garden inside the space provided in the window. Installing garden window can be little expensive, but it’s a great way to add some greenery to a home.

Single hung have one top fixed sash and one lower movable sash. The lower sash moves vertically to open or close the window. This type is commonly seen in apartments. The most popular and most commonly used is the double hung windows. This window is similar to single hung except both the sashes are movable and open inward for easy cleaning.

Casement windows open outside by means of cranking mechanism and this is the older type of design available. Side sliders have movable sashes where they move horizontally, one over the other. This type of window is easier to open and close. The awning window is the traditional design window that swings outwards. The awning type is attached by means of a connecting hinge and the modern version have lever to open the windows.

Picture window can be a great option for living room and it is cost high when it comes for installation or repair as it is a large continuous glass sheets. Bay window types are normally angled at 45 or 60 degrees and it has a fixed center piece for adjoining the other pieces of window. Bow windows are nothing but several casement windows joined together to form an arch.

Cleaning a vinyl window has now become much easier as it can be tilted or inwards. These windows do not require painting and they are also sound proof and thermal resistant. Occasional dusting and cleaning with soapy water is enough to maintain this window for longer period.
