Window Coverings

Are you tired of the look of your room? Want to transform it into something different? But not sure exactly what you want? It’s time to use of a bit of imagination with our help of course. A good starting point is to change the curtains or drapes.

You can consider the option of buying readymade, but why not be a bit more original and create your own? It’s not as complicated as you may think. The only materials required to do the job consist of a curtain rod and some pinch clips. The clips are intended to hold the edge of the material in place. More recently, gothic type rods have become popular. They are put together with a piece of simple fabric or some sheers with which you can achieve quite an eye catching effect.

Some people have opted for attaching just a plain white piece of fabric and decorating it up with colored ribbons as tie-backs. This can create a soft romantic illusion that is quite pleasant for a bedroom for example.

Some  drapes and window coverings just slide along the rod and don’t need the clips to go with them. These type of curtains can be found in a range of colors and designs, and have loops at the top which thread over the rod. It is fairly simple to make these type of curtains yourself, by fastening ribbons or something similar to the top of the fabric, with studs or buttons.

A fairly new and popular window covering is being made of specialty papers, such as rice or handmade paper. These can be a bit expensive to purchase but it’s not that difficult to make your own, you just need to locate a store that has these specialty papers for sale. These coverings create semi-transparent effect which is just a little bit different, if that is an effect you are looking for.

Once you start exploring the specialty range of papers you will find there are some really creative ideas to be had. The papers can have features such as glitter or colored threads interwoven within the material. All you have to do it to cut out the shape and size you want for your window. The curtains are hung by means of wire and binder clips. These curtain are very suitable for bathrooms.

Venetian blinds are also a popular choice for windows and can add an original flair to your room. They do tend to be a bit more expensive to buy but again they are not too difficult to make yourself. A quick method would be to use some spray paint and a stencil on a simple and plain blind. Your creativity is only limited by your imagination.

Be mindful that your drapes and window coverings can often dictate and define the style of your room. Don’t go overboard as the end result could be too busy, aim for something simple and elegant that enhances the room rather than detracts from it.
